KubeEdge is an open source edge computing platform built upon Kubernetes with cloud native technologies. It provides core infrastructure support for networking, application deployment and metadata synchronization between cloud and edge. It also supports MQ Telemetry Transport (MQTT) and allows developers to author custom logic and enable resource constrained device communication at the multi-arch Edge. KubeEdge can be applied on IoT, lightweight edge, multi-access edge computing (MEC) and enterprise edge and more.

With business logic running at the edge, much larger volumes of data can be secured and processed locally where the data is produced. KubeEdge extends native containerized application orchestration capabilities from cloud to the multi-arch edge nodes. This reduces the network bandwidth requirements between the edge and cloud, increases responsiveness, decreases costs, and protects customers’ data privacy.
