Kubernetes is an open source project hosted by the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) to manage containerized workloads on computing platforms. With Arm increasingly being used in the cloud and at the edge, Kubernetes provides an effective way to distribute and scale workloads.
Kubernetes provides a framework for container orchestration and automating the deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications. Kubernetes enables deployment and the scaling of resources on-demand like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) workloads which often require bursts of computation.
Arm collaborates with the community and the ecosystem to bring Kubernetes to the edge, with initiatives like Project Cassini. Project Cassini creates a standard platform for edge computing that respects the diversity of silicon and designs, going from low power to high power, and small amounts of compute to large amounts of compute, in locations ranging from industrial IoT to 5G base stations.Learn more
Arm is an active contributor to cloud native projects including Kubernetes, containerd, Envoy, Vitess, Etcd, Helm, and Rook. Automated conformance testing on Arm for Kubernetes is done for periodic development releases by the Special Interest Group (SIG) for testing, with conformance test results submitted to Architecture SIG TestGrid. The Cloud Native Computer Foundation (CNCF) Internet of Things (IoT) edge working group provides a forum to discuss development and deployment of IoT and edge specific applications. The CNCF Continuous Integration (CI) working group works closely with Arm and its partners to provide full Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) for CNCF projects.
